Disability Symbol |
What is the Disability Symbol? It’s recognition given by Job Centre Plus to employers who have agreed to take action to meet five commitments regarding the employment, retention, training and career development of disabled employees.
These commitments are:
-
to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and to consider them on their abilities;
-
to discuss with disabled employees, at any time but at least once a year, what both parties can do to make sure disabled employees can develop and use their abilities;
-
to make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment;
-
to take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work;
-
to review these commitments each year and assess what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans;
How is the symbol relevant to me as a jobseeker or employee?
These commitments ensure that disabled people are supported by employers and treated fairly at every stage of their selection and employment.
How will I recognise the Disability Symbol?
The Disability Symbol shown below is a circular symbol, usually green, with two ticks.
What does it mean if I see the Disability Symbol on a job advert?
Cartrefi Conwy has made the commitment to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities, this means that any applicants who declare a disability and who also meet all essential criteria of the person specification, will be offered an interview.
